Formed in 1994, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Communication Posse is a 501(c)3 nonprofit group. We "assist and cooperate with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in the maintenance of peace, law, and order within the County of Maricopa, State of Arizona, at any time and in any manner as and when requested to do so." All of our members are Amateur ("Ham") Radio Operators. New members are expected to have their license already or acquire it within one year of joining.
The Communications Posse's callsign is K7MCS (Maricopa County Sheriff). We hold a radio net every Tuesday night at 2000 Hours on the Thompson Peak Repeater, 448.825 MHz (PL 100.0 Hz). We hold our monthly meeting at 1830 Hours on the third Wednesday of every month, except December. The location is the Enforcement Support building, located at 3325 West Durango Street in Phoenix. Visitors are always welcome.
The Communications Posse "annual meeting" includes the election of the Officers that comprise the Executive Committee. Here are the results of the January 18, 2012 election:
Commander: Bob Moyer
Executive Officer: John Osborne
Secretary: George Helser
Treasurer: Art Nehill
Training Officer: Glenn Edwards
Congratulations to the new Executive Committee members.
Tim Allen -- star of Home Improvement, Toy Story, The Santa Clause and Galaxy Quest, just to name a few -- stars in Last Man Standing, an ABC comedy airing at 8 PM (EST) on Tuesday nights. Allen plays Mike Baxter, KA0XTT, a married father of three and the director of marketing at an outdoor sporting goods store in Colorado whose life is dominated by women. While Amateur Radio has not been prominently featured in the first episodes, according to John Amodeo, NN6JA -- the producer of Last Man Standing -- it is a part of the show and an important part of Mike’s character. The episode that will establish Mike as a radio amateur is currently scheduled to air in mid-January.
